Wicker Park Roadstains
WICKER PARK ROADSTAINS This series of work came after the Chicago Roadstains project, where I would trace stains on the street and the final piece would be the same scale. With this project, instead of tracing the actual stain I would collect stains while on walks through my neighborhood with a digital camera. This would give me the freedom to record interesting large-scale stains that would be in the middle of a high traffic area where I could not trace the stain on site. In the studio the photographic image would be printed onto 8.5 in. x 11 in. archival paper, and I would “draw-out” the image that interested me in the stain with archival pens. This image would be the starting point for a series of small drawings on paper, and laser-cut drawings of these images. Working with this small scale allowed a large collection of stains to be archived and exhibited in a way that related to the experience of walking through the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago.
